Office of Student Assessments

The primary responsibility of the Jefferson County School District Office of Student Assessment is to administer all local, state and federally mandated assessment programs for students in Jefferson County School District. Like the Mississippi Department of Education, our goal is to protect the integrity of the examination and to assure that results are valid and reliable. In addition, our aim is to improve academic achievement for all students in the district. This will be accomplished by providing administrators, educators, parents, and the community the tools and information about student performance in the context of college and career readiness.

The statewide assessment program includes the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program for math and ELA (MAAP and MAAP-A), the Subject Area Testing Program for science and social studies (MAAP), the Mississippi Science Test for grades 5 and 8 (MAAP), the ACT for all juniors, the Mississippi K-3 Assessment Support System (MKAS2), and LAS Links, the English Language Proficiency Test. In addition to the high stakes tests, we administer the MS CPAS2 Assessment for vocational students and the AVSAB Test for juniors and seniors. The district also conducts quarterly benchmark assessments through TE21.

Our assessment system is used to enhance teaching and learning, support school improvement, and to provide data for accountability to help ensure the effectiveness of schools, programs, and staff. We look for to serving all stakeholders of Jefferson County School District.
